Hands-On Rain Garden Workshop
Come join the Green Lake Association and Stuart’s Landscaping for a hands-on workshop that will provide you with the skills and knowledge to install your very own rain garden. The workshop will take place in the Silver Creek Room in the lower level of the Ripon Public Library on Saturday, September 27, from 9:00-11:00 AM. This event is free, but pre-registration is required. Register here or by calling (920) 294-6480.
A rain garden is a beneficial landscaping tool that utilizes a shallow depression and native plants to soak up excess rainwater from rooftops, driveways and other nonporous surfaces. Instead of carrying pollution and sediment into local waterways, a rain garden infiltrates excess runoff into the soil, where it is naturally filtered and cleaned. A rain garden can absorb 30% more water than a traditional lawn and provides habitat for birds, butterflies and beneficial insects, including mosquito-eating dragonflies.
As a hands-on workshop, participants will enjoy a rain garden presentation and take part in installing plants and finalizing construction of a rain garden, which is being installed on-site at the Ripon Public Library. Participants are asked to bring a pair of gloves and to dress appropriately for garden work.
This event is weather dependent, so be certain to visit our online Event Calendar at www.greenlakeassociation.com for the latest updates.
