Hand Harvesting of Eurasian Watermilfoil

Hand Harvesting of Eurasian Watermilfoil

There will be a training workshop on strategies for manual removal of Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM) at the Wautoma DNR Service Center (427 E. Tower Drive, Wautoma) on July 24th from 10:00-12:00 hosted by Chris Hamerla, Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator. The meeting room is located just inside the front doors.

Everyone is welcome to attend and the workshop is free to all participants. We will be discussing strategies and obstacles related to manually removing EWM, and showing a ~20min video (including a lot of underwater video footage of hand-removal efforts). Please consider attending if your lake group is interested in attempting hand-removal of EWM. This method is not appropriate for every situation, but it has proven successful in several cases ranging from a few plants to multi-acre populations as part of an integrated management approach.

Please contact Chris Hamerla (chris.hamerla@goldensandsrcd.org) or Paul Skawinski (paul.skawinski@goldensandsrcd.org) with any questions. Paul is the Regional AIS Education Specialist for Marathon, Portage, Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood Counties, and he will be inviting lake residents from his counties as well.
