Land & Lake Family Field Day @ Dukelow Farm
Aug 17 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Landowners in the Green Lake area have a lot to be proud of. That is what a multi-organizational group representing farmers, shoreline owners and the public plans to highlight at the Land & Lake Family Field Day on Saturday, August 17 in Markesan, Wisconsin.

The Land & Lake Family Field Day is a free event to showcase these practices to a broad audience – for farmers and landowners to consider on their own property, or for the public to gain a deeper appreciation for what is being done to improve soil and downstream water resources.

Attendees will hear multi-generational farmers speak about how conservation practices have helped them to overcome challenges. Attendees will also see how farm equipment has changed over the years and corresponding managed field plots, as well as a rainfall simulator showing how soil samples from these plots differ in infiltration rates.

The event will also have FREE lunch, a band in the barn, children’s activities and vendor/educational booths offering information on everything from cover crops to lawn management.

The Land and Lake Family Field Day is on Saturday, August 17th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Dukelow Farm, W2026 County Rd B Markesan, WI 53946. Event is FREE and open to the public but attendees are encouraged to RSVP by calling the Green Lake Association at (920) 294-6480.

Native Prairie Seed Collection

Saturday, October 19, 2019, 10:30AM – Noon

Lisa Reas will be leading volunteers on a late morning (to avoid morning dew/frost) prairie flower and grass seed collection event at Dawson Prairie in the Green Lake Conference Center. We will be collecting seed from a variety of native plants such as purple coneflower, blazingstar, compass plant, milkweed, asters, little bluestem, Indian grass, and prairie dropseed. Seed collection is a popular event among gardeners as participants will be discussing prairie plants and their function in the ecosystem (habitat, erosion control, etc.) and such things as native plant use in garden settings. The seed collected will be dried and used at sites such as Winnebago Trail and Sunnyside as we further work to restore lands once overrun by buckthorn. The event is open to all ages; children are welcome. We will provide paper bags for the seed and refreshments will be provided.
