RSVP makes cost sharing available to Green Lake property owners for shoreland restoration projects

Are you interested in someone else helping to pay for your shoreland restoration project - a project that protects your shoreline from erosion, enhances your view, attracts more wildlife, improves the lake's water quality and fisheries - plus gives you more time to relax and enjoy it all?

The Revitalization of Shoreland Vegetation Project is offering to do just that. Funds from the Green Lake Association and the Green Lake Sanitary District will help pay for 75% of an eligible project's cost, up to $1000. Additional funding may be available for aquatic plantings.RSVP Cost Sharing

An eligible project is one which has been approved by RSVP personnel and includes all activities and materials necessary to establish a native vegetative buffer between the lake and groomed landscape, such as a lawn. Items eligible for cost sharing include plants, seed, mulch and erosion control materials; labor and related services for installation and planting; and site preparation.

The grant does not cover design costs, though design assistance may be provided or contracted for through RSVP. Other ineligible costs include materials, labor or other services for stairs, walkways, paths or other access structures; riprap; and plants, seeds, mulch and erosion control materials not specifically approved by RSVP.

To receive funding, a property owner signs a Cost Share Agreement detailing the restoration project and the approved project costs.  The agreement also establishes the date for completion of the project and the length of time the buffer must be maintained.  In addition, the agreement allows RSVP personnel to inspect the project annually.

After the project is complete and inspected by RSVP personnel, RSVP reimburses the property owner for 75% of the cost of the project, to a maximum of $1000.  Should the property owner not fulfill the agreements for inspection or maintenance, the recipient will repay a percentage of the cost share funds.  If the recipient sells the property to someone who does not assume the obligations of the agreement, the original property owner will be responsible for repayment of the “unearned” portion of the funds.

RSVP-certified businesses are qualified to assist you in your shoreland buffer implementation. Proposed projects will be ranked to maximize the benefit to the lake.
