February
Saturday, February 4, 6:30-8:30 p.m.—Moonlight Walk on Sunnyside Trails*. Come out of hibernation for a moonlit walk the snow covered trails at Sunnyside Conservancy with the Green Team. The crisp, winter night and nearly full moon provide a magical outdoor activity for those looking to experience Green Lake during the offseason. Complete the walk by warming up around a bonfire and sipping on hot chocolate provided by the Green Team. Make the experience complete by bringing along sandwiches, s’mores or hot dogs to cook over the bonfire.
Participants should park in the parking area off of Lakeview Dr. (south of Sunnyside Rd.) From there participants will follow the signs and luminaries as guides leading to the bonfire and a moonlit view of Silver Creek. The walk is conducted at each individual’s leisure so come when you can!
A nearly full moon and a candlelit trail will provide light, but participants should bring a flashlight for additional light while walking. This event is free and open to the public. No reservations are required. For additional information, please contact Jerry Specht (920.229.4468) or Tom Schultz (920.960.1796).
*We previously scheduled this event at Sugar Island and Pools Hill. However, due to uncertain/unsafe ice conditions, we have rescheduled the event location to Sunnyside Conservancy. We hope to host the event at Sugar Island in 2013.

march
Saturday, Mid-March, 9:30-11:00 a.m. and 1:00-2:30 p.m.—Tap into Sweetness: Maple Syrup Tour. As temperatures begin to warm the maple sap starts flowing! Experience the process of making maple syrup in the woods led by Tanya and Randy Roeper. This annual process includes tapping Sugar Maple trees for sap collection, then boiling the sap into syrup right in the middle of the woods. Taste test dark and light maple syrups and other maple treats.
Those attending should wear boots suited for mud or snow and crossing a small stream. Please dress according to the weather. Although a large tent will offer some protection from the damp, cool spring weather the event is entirely outdoors.

*The production of Maple syrup is dependent on the weather. Once Mother Nature decides the time is right for maximum sap flow, we’ll contact reserved participants by phone or email with the date of the tour.

april
Saturday, April 7, 9:00-10:30 a.m.—Green Lake Fish Rearing Facility Tour, Part II. The Green Team first visited the Green Lake Fish Rearing Facility in December to see the small fish (known as fry) that were received in late fall. Join us for the first time or see how the fish have grown in this second tour.
Each year the fish rearing facility, which is operated by the Green Lake Sanitary District staff, raises Lake and Brown Trout during the winter and releases the fish in late spring into Big Green Lake. Learn about the fish rearing facility operations and view the 7-10 inch fish before they are released into Big Green Lake for your fishing enjoyment.
This is a great experience for young anglers to view the fish in early development. The Green Lake Fish Rearing Facility is located at W1294 N. Lawson Dr., Green Lake (directly behind Egbert Excavating). This event is free and open to the public. Contact Jerry Specht (920.229.4468) or Charlie Marks (920.291.6688) for more information.
Saturday, April 21 (8 a.m.-12 p.m.)—Guskey-Miller Prairie Clean-up Day. Celebrate Earth Day by joining the Green Team to improve the usability of Guskey-Miller Prairie. This Green Lake Conservancy Partnership Property includes 38.8 acres of restored tall grass prairie and forest that borders Silver Creek. This property acts as a buffer for Big Green Lake, so join Green Team volunteers as they work to improve the quality of this property. The Guskey-Miller property is located northwest of the Ripon Pizza Hut. Turn north at the Ripon Pizza Hut on N. Union/W. Oshkosh and take the first left on Berlin Rd. The Prairie is located next to the Ripon Compost site and recycle center. Once you’re at the site, participants will be directed for parking and to the work site location. Activities for the day include removal of junk piles of old tires and metal items from the old farm and litter pick-up.
Participants should wear solid shoes, long pants and good work gloves for the clean-up. Join us afterward for lunch at Pizza Hut. Pizza is on us!
This event is free and open to the public. No reservations required. Please contact Tom Schultz (920.960.1796) for more information.
