January

Saturday, January 30, 6:30—9:00p.m—SPECIAL GREEN TEAM EVENT ….  A Winter Walk in the Moonlight. The Green Team is hosting an exciting special event that includes a Moonlight Walk on Hammer’s Trail on Saturday, January 30, from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.  This event will take place at and near the Green Lake Conference Center’s Tea House. This event is free and open to the public.

Several activities will be taking place on this evening, including a full-moon walking tour of the beautiful Hammer’s Trail. This trail was cleared and developed during 2009 and has five bridges along the route that enable a hiker to cross several creeks and springs that flow year-round.  Luminaries will be set out along the trail to provide guidance and to enhance the light from the full moon.  Although we plan for Mother Nature to illuminate the night, participants are encouraged to bring flashlights if additional light is desired.  The 3/4-mile trail will be packed, so snowshoes are unnecessary, but warm boots should be worn.

The Green Lake School District's Earth Partnership team will also guide participants to view the remains of Jessie Lawson’s little-known 100-year old pavilion and reflecting pond and share the interesting history of this unique area – which is located on the school’s newly-acquired property at the GLCC. In addition to these two walking tours, a cross-country ski route will be set up by the Green Lake Conference Center. Following the outdoor activities warm up inside the Tea House, socialize, and enjoy complimentary chili (both regular and vegetarian types) and hot refreshments around the fireplace.   There will also be displays on hand so one can learn more about the organizations that comprise the Green Team.

For planning purposes, it is suggested (but not required) to RSVP to the Green Lake School District at 920-294-6411. Or become a GLA fan on Facebook and RSVP to our event! In case of inclement weather this event will be postponed to the next evening, Sunday, Jan.31.  Please contact Jerry Specht jjspecht@aol.com or 920-229-4468 or Tom Schultz trschultz@centurytel.net or 920-294-3021 if you suspect that a date change or cancellation may be required.

The Green Team is a collaboration of several local organizations, including the Green Lake Association, the Green Lake Sanitary District, the Green Lake School District, and the Green Lake Conservancy Foundation.
