GLA Board of Director Meetings
Board meetings are typically held the third Saturday of every month at the Caestecker library.
January-April and October-December meetings begin at 9:00 a.m. May-August meetings begin at 8:00 a.m. Times and dates are subject to change. Please call the GLA office to confirm dates and times. 920-294-6480.

Summer Lecture: Lake Stories, Caestecker Public Library, Cost is freeEveryone has a story to tell.  And Lake Stories is a portal to many of these personal accounts told by the people hitched to Green Lake waters. As a student-driven class project, Lake Stories is a documentary comprised of a collection of personal video histories recorded during interviews conducted by students enrolled in Green Lake School District's Lake Studies and Environmental Biology classes. Who are the storytellers?  They are boaters, sailors, fishermen, business leaders, lake managers, fishing guides, duck hunters, and even the brother of a drowning victim. Everyone has a story to tell.  And Lake Stories tells many of them. (Reservations required)

Green Team Outing: Good Bugs, Bad Plants—The Green Team focuses on who, where, and how Green Lake’s wetlands and shorelands are monitored for invasive species and controls to counteract their negative impacts on the environment . Attendees will meet at the Green Lake Sanitary District parking lot (Highway TT off State Highway 23 north of the lake) to observe the raising of the beetle that control invasive purple loosestrife;  Then tour by car to observe other invasives.  Please contact Jerry Specht at 920-229-4468) for more details.

Green Team Outing: Bacteria and BeachesBefore you go for a swim, learn the different tests that ensure that Green Lake’s beaches are safe.Meet at Sunset County Park shelter (Highway A at the east end of the lake) at 9:00 a.m. for a demonstration of some of the water testing and monitoring techniques used to asses the water conditions at Green Lake’s beaches.   For more questions, please call Charlie Marks at the Green Lake Sanitary District (920-295-4488).

Summer Lecture: Marine Mail Delivery and Raffle Drawing to Follow Lecture: Joe Norton, Doug Norton, and Jane Willett, Thrasher Opera House, $3.00—Beginning in 1930, mail was delivered around Big Green Lak via chris craft.  In those years, the mail boat made about 50 stops in 1 hour; by 1948 the number had increased to 135 delivery points, taking 2 ½ hours. Agile young people always rode the bow.  One of them would leap onto the dock on rough, windy days and leaping back into the boat as it made another pass to retrieve the “postal carrier.  In calmer weather, the carrier stretched to the mailbox, hoping for the best. Come to the lecture to hear more marine mail delivery stories!

Revitalization of Shoreland Vegetation Tour, Free—Meet at Hattie Sherwood Park (west of the City of Green Lake on South Lawson Drive)Visit a water garden installed to control runoff, native shoreland plantings and a floating bog, all measures to protect and improve water quality, provide habitat for native animal species, and enhance the beauty and enjoyment of Big Green Lake.

Fish Rearing Facility Tours—Presented by the GLA, GLSD, and Green Lake CountyTake Lawson Drive, east of the City of Green Lake (South of the intersection of State Highways 49 and 23 and County A east of the City of Green Lake; turn to the west at the first intersection) See brown trout (if available) in the fish raceways, automated fish feeders, and aerators.  Learn how the system functions and the impact viral hemorrhagic septicemia (VHS) has had on fish stocking in Big Green Lake.

Junior Ice Fishing Outing , Dartford Bay – Presented by the GLSD, the GLA and Norton Fishing and Hunting AdventuresSafe ice conditions permitting, young anglers learn the secrets of not letting that one big one “get away!” Free instruction, fishing gear, bait, and lunch included. Limited space and prior registration required by calling the Green Lake Association, 920-294-6480.
